Beach Sunrise Photo Landscape Quilt
Welcome to Sew Nature’s 1st Newsletter!
These Newsletters will inform you of what I'm working on, a blurb about a beautiful wildflower, an environmental article, and an offer.
I'm excited to share with you the quilt above: 'Beach Sunrise Photo Landscape'. I just finished it today and I must say, I am happy with it :) It was inspired by a beautiful sunrise in Melbourne, Florida my daughter and I witnessed. I love nature, especially the ocean, it's so beautiful and relaxing.
I created it with a new process I'm teaching, Photos to Landscape Quilt. The beach wildflowers, butterflies, and birds were photos I printed onto fabric. For the landscape background, I turned to Karen Eckmeiers book, Accidental Landscapes. I love this process because I can create any Landscape and accurately put whatever subject I want into it. Many in my class put cherished family members into their landscape quilt. I will be teaching this class on September 29th and October 6th, hybrid - zoom, and at my house in Melbourne Villag.
Featured Wildflower - Dotted Horsemint Monarda punctata

I am starting this series with my favorite Wildflower; it is Native to Florida and most of North America.
The elongated flowers start as green petals and turn pink, it’s amazing to watch.
They attract Pollinators by the dozens.
Plant them in sunny, sandy areas, but it will tolerate shade. Propagation is by seeds and division. Once established it continually regenerates itself.
They grow to a height of about 3 feet.
Pictures of these and many other wildflowers are in my patterns for you to print.
If you come to my class Landscape class, I'll have some seeds to give you from my yard.
And if you come to the in-person class at my house, I'll give you a tour of my yard so you can see these and other wildflowers.
Try some in your yard today!

Protect Nature to Protect Ourselves—
Conservation in a time of Covid.
We’ve long known that humanity’s exploitation of the natural world is far exceeding the planet’s ability to sustain societies. Now we’re living firsthand through a shocking demonstration of nature’s ability to bite back against this over-exploitation, in the form of zoonotic diseases—pathogens that make the leap from wildlife to people.
But there is hope, Science shows that, by putting effectively and equitably managed systems of protected and conserved areas at the heart of our development, not only can we help to drive the global recovery from COVID-19, but also make a real dent in a host of other major systemic challenges.
Put simply: protection is nature’s vaccine and one that we need to deploy around the world for the benefit of all species, including our own.
